Yummly.com – Search Platform for Recipes

Yummly.com is a new recipe site that I think is super useful. It’s a platform for food and recipes, sort of like the Netflix for food! The site has so many wonderful features. Some of my favorites are:
- FoodFinder – this search tool allows you to find recipes many different ways. You can search by ingredients, nutrition, price, dietary preference and more.
- Recommendations – based on your interaction with the site, you will receive recommendations for more recipes.
- Video Tutorials – this is something I hope I can do one day! They have videos that offer instructions for recipes as well as cooking techniques. This is helpful for pretty much anyone.
- Edit Recipes – if you find a recipe you like, but you want to change up a few things, you can do it right on the Yummly site.
- Nutritional Information – this is probably my favorite thing about the site. The nutritional information is listed for every recipe. Even if you edit a recipe, the nutritional information will update for you.

There are plenty of recipe sites out there, so what is so special about Yummly? Well, they have all the features I look for. Normally recipe websites only have a couple exciting features, but I haven’t run into many that have them all. There’s Facebook integration, recipe recommendations, a recipe box, videos… I could go on and on! The one feature that I think sets this site apart from all the rest is the social networking aspect (called TasteBuds… how cute and clever is that!). You can find people who have the same food interests as you or who cook for the same type of people as you (family, events, kids, etc.). It’s pretty cool! I love the look of the site as well – it’s very easy to navigate.

And remember how I always say to make a recipe your own? Take away, add to, and make the recipe unique for your tastes. Yummly lets you do that, right on their site. How awesome is that? Wish I had that kind of integration for my site! Also, I think this is great for a family with picky eaters or food allergies. You can search for recipes in such a detailed way, you are sure to find what you are looking for. And if you can’t, just edit some delicious sounding recipes you find to fit your family’s needs.

Yummly is fairly new, so they are still perfecting everything. While poking around, I found that they have a really nice feature that lets you easily give them feedback or ideas for the site. I added a few of my suggestions and checked out some others that had been made. They even inform you if they are working on a suggestion or have implemented it. I really like that because it lets the community be a big part of making this site as useful as possible.

Former chef Jennifer Segal from OnceUponAChef.com called Yummly the ‘Facebook for foodies’ and I couldn’t agree more! Stop by Yummly and check them out! Share your wonderful recipes with a growing community of foodies like you and me.
